Design London STIR Lecture: Designing the city

With Design London

Date: Friday 1 October
Time: 6:30pm – 8pm
Location: Imperial College London, Exhibition Road, South Kensington, London SW7 5BN

London has been acknowledged as a centre of design since the mid-nineteenth century. It has flourished as a locus of product design, architecture and planning, communication design, fashion design, broadcast and interaction design and now service design. It has helped improve quality of life, enhanced industry and facilitated societal development.

Today London is addressing big challenges in transport and wayfinding, housing and workplaces, the built environment and infrastructure, communications and information sharing, education and heath, energy and waste. Other challenges design might address include the Big Society issues of the democratic deficit and citizen engagement.

What can we learn from the past successes of design in the capital? How can it better help address London’s future challenges? And can design be a major export for the UK in a globalised economy?

We have an expert panel this evening that will stir up this debate:

Please join us for an evening addressing some questions and the issues that are at the heart of the Story of London Festival. At the end of the formal sessions there will be a networking event where you can meet the speakers, as well as other Festival attendees.

Speakers include:
Sir George Cox
Mat Hunter
Dan Phillips, director of sustainability, Buro Happold
